China - Beijing

When we arrived in Beijing it was late in the day and surprisingly warm. The first thing that we did was to organise a tour to the Great Wall and a wake up call at 6:15am. Then we went to bed.

When we woke up we put our clothes on and went to get some breakfast before the tour but it was 3:15am! Dad thinks they misunderstood when we organised the wake up call. We put our PJs back on, set our phone alarm and went back to sleep. At 6:15am we woke up, got dressed had breakfast and went on the tour.

The drive to the Great Wall was two and a half hours long. Our tour guide’s name was Leo. He told us he was famous and was on Australian radio and TV. He was a funny guy and very interesting. We drove to a part of the great wall which was right next to Mongolia. We walked for a long time on the Great Wall and my dad and I even went past the point that Leo told us not to pass. Then we had to get back to have lunch and we were late with our tour group after that we drove back to all the people's hotels and we were the first stop. Then after that we had buffet for dinner and it tasted very good.

The next day we woke up and then went went to Silk Street which was a lot of shops that had fake stuff. For lunch we went to a restaurant called Dadong so dad could have the best Peking Duck in Beijing. It was really good, it came out with traditional pancakes, puffy bread, cucumber, radishes, pickles, sugar, garlic, sauce and onion. In the evening we went to Wangfujing street and looked at all the street food. They had weird food like scorpions, starfish, crickets and seahorses. They also had dumplings, drinks and toffee fruit. It was a stinky street. We didn’t eat anything there.

The next day we went on a tour and we were the only people on the tour. Our tour guide was Jamie. He was really nice.  First we looked at Tiananmen Square then we walked around the Forbidden City. We went to the Heavenly Temple next and watched people dancing, doing tai chi and playing hacky sack. Jamie bought me a hacky sack to play with at home. After that we had lunch and went to the Summer Palace.

On our last day in Beijing we went to the shopping centre near by the hotel. We looked at the shops, had some ice-cream and looked at a supermarket. They had lots of yummy food to try like cake, strawberries, cookies and more. We watched a guy cutting up a pineapple and packing it ready to sell. There was also an ice skating rink at the shopping centre and most of the people skating were really good. We swam in the hotel pool.
